Housing for Over 55s Panel Update!

Housing for Over 55s Panel Team meeting

We’ve had a busy year at HOP! The last time you heard from me, it was halfway through the year and now we are three quarters of the way to the Christmas. We have the final two meetings of the year under our belts.

In July, the main item on the agenda was a talk from The Norfolk and Waveney Wellbeing Service. They do great work, and I have in fact used them myself and was very impressed with their service. You can contact them directly through their website and talk through your issues in confidence. With Christmas coming up, it’s a time of year where people can experience loneliness. Anxiety and depression can affect everyone, contact them today for free Wellbeing support.

In September, the meeting was well attended with our guest speaker, Douglas, Complaints Manager at Broadland. There was a lively discussion, and Douglas did a good job at responding to complaint queries. He shared how Broadland were doing in dealing with complaints and how they were seeking to improve their performance.

We hope he gained something from his meeting with the HOP Panel, I certainly think that it was a worthwhile exercise for us.

Next we had an interesting presentation from Breckland Arts for Health, which is part of Creative Arts East. This is a charity committed to bringing arts to the region to combat social isolation.

They say:

“We aim to use the transformative power of the arts to make a positive difference to the lives of people living in rural communities.”

Finally, one of our founder member’s asked the committee if we would be behind a question he wishes to submit to the Board. This is regarding the increase in Broadland’s building of open market homes. His resolution was passed collectively.

The question also sparked conversation on how HOP questions can be submitted to the Board. We will talk more about this next year.

So that’s it for 2024, our next meeting will be in January 2025!

Bye for now,

Tenant Assurance Panel Update!

Over the last six months, the TAP has been actively involved in reviewing various aspects of Broadland’s operations, ensuring compliance with the Regulator of Social Housing Consumer Standards. Their Input has led to the development of action plans and progress tracking, reviewed every six months.

Latest TAP Meeting Updates:

  • KPI Review: The TAP noted an improvement in the percentage of non-emergency repairs completed within agreed timescales. Additionally, there has been a focus on reducing delays in completing reactive repairs on the first visit. Communal repairs data is being added to the review for future updates.
  • Community Conversation & Inspectors: While Community Conversation will not occur in all areas this year, residents in Great Yarmouth have shown strong interest. TAP members also discussed how volunteer residents inspect communal areas and report back any issues to the Local Delivery Team.
  • Resident Feedback & Communication: TAP prepared its annual report that was presented to the Board in September. The report summarised TAP’s activities, effectiveness, and outcomes over the last year. Members worked together to finalise the report and provide feedback.

Join the TAP!

TAP has been working hard to review service performance and identify areas for improvement, including housing repairs, compliance with safety standard, and resident feedback processes. Their contributions are making a real difference.

Resident Events

At Broadland, we love bringing our residents together for fun and meaningful events. Recently, we hosted two fantastic community gatherings at schemes in Norwich and Dereham, each offering an opportunity for residents to connect with staff and one another.

Norwich

Our Norwich event was a lively gathering filled with face painting, arts and crafts, outdoor games, and delicious chips from The Bucket List. It was wonderful to see so many residents enjoying the sunshine and spending quality time with their families. A huge thank you to everyone who joined us and made the day so special!

Dereham

Over at Dereham, we hosted a relaxed event where residents had the chance to chat with Broadland staff, ask questions, and provide feedback on their scheme. It was a great opportunity to have those important conversations in person. For the younger residents, we had arts and crafts activities to keep them entertained, along with a visit from an ice cream van, which everyone enjoyed!
