Maintain clear communal areas in flats or sheltered housing for swift evacuation during emergencies. Broadland Health and Safety team will issue notices for items to be removed.
Avoid leaving in communal areas:
- Bicycles
- Mobility Scooters
- Prams / Pushchairs
- Potted Plants
- Furniture
- Pictures and Ornaments
Inspections
Following the Grenfell fire tragedy, regular inspections of balconies and terraces are mandated by UK law to prevent fire spread in multi-storey buildings.

Summer approaching increases outdoor activities, but beware of fire risks:
- Avoid smoking and dispose of materials carefully.
- Prohibit BBQs, electric grills, firepits, and patio heaters.
- Prevent external fire spread: avoid hanging laundry, flammable furniture, or clutter.
Check balcony weight limits to avoid exceeding safety standards.
