Happy 100th Birthday, Olive!

In August, we celebrated a very special milestone for one of our residents who turned 100 years old. We’ve included a lovely photo from her earlier years – Olive, your spirit shines just as brightly today. We hope you had a wonderful birthday and enjoyed your flowers!

Charity Fundraiser for Nourishing Norfolk Network

Denise, one our residents at a sheltered scheme in Norwich, handed over a charity cheque of £175 to Nourishing Norfolk. Most of these funds will go towards providing free toothbrushes as some families share toothbrushes and don’t have access to toothpaste.

During the scheme’s Wednesday coffee morning, the guest speaker was welcomed, Billie, who was the Nourishing Norfolk Network Coordinator.

The organisation receives grant aid as part of the Norfolk Community Foundation but have other donors including the National Lottery. They have 26 food hubs across Norfolk, as well as some mobile hubs. They offer budget priced food and services such as, how to set up a bank account, healthy food taster sessions and support with completing forms.

According to a study from Future Health, Norfolk and Waveney top the list of malnourished areas in the UK, with 1 in 15 people affected. Across the county, thousands of families are struggling to access affordable food, but Nourishing Norfolk believe in a Norfolk where all individuals and families can have access to nutritious food on their doorstep. Volunteers and staff provide immediate relief from hunger and equip people with the tools to find the pathways out of food insecurity.

A big well done to Denise for raising funds for such a good cause!

Microchipping Cats – New Cat Law in 2024

By law, all pet cats in England must be microchipped before they reach the age of 20 weeks, except for unowned cats like feral and community cats. Indoor-only cats must be microchipped as well.

According to the new law, all pet cats should have been microchipped by 10th June 2024. If you missed this deadline and didn’t take action to have your cat microchipped within the 21 days following it, you may face a fine of up to £500.

In the UK, you can expect to pay anywhere between £20 and £30 to have your cat microchipped, depending on where you live.

Reasonable Adjustments

We have a new Reasonable Adjustments Policy and Procedure. We would like to thank the residents who helped us by giving feedback and suggesting how we could improve the policy. We received feedback that a ‘Frequently Asked Questions’ document which provides a summary of information would be helpful, so we have done this.

Broadland is committed to ensuring that our services can be accessed by our residents with disabilities or additional support needs.

A reasonable adjustment is a change to a service which seeks as far as possible to remove any disadvantage faced by those with a protected characteristic or a vulnerability.

Our policy does not aim to explain how we will approach every circumstance where a resident requires a service to be adjusted. It is a general statement of our commitment to ensure residents are not at a disadvantage when accessing our services.

Examples of reasonable adjustments include:

  • Information in appropriate alternative formats such as large print or translated into another language.
  • Communication through an advocate.
  • Arranging home visits for those who have mobility difficulties.
  • Providing services or appointment times to take account of medical needs or special circumstances, such as caring responsibilities.

Residents can request a reasonable adjustment through their Neighbourhood Officer or our communication channels.

We will consider if we can make the reasonable adjustment and talk to you about it. Many reasonable adjustments involve little or no cost or additional resourcing requirements and are relatively easy to implement.
