Taking care of your communal grounds
The Estate Services team are responsible for looking after the communal grounds around Broadland’s homes.
Our in-house Estate Services team continue to:
- Grow their own plants (majority) all year round with use of a polytunnel. They grow plants from cuttings taken from other schemes and help to rescue and repot other plants. Everything in the polytunnel is recycled – trays are pre-used and washed.
- Make compost from leaf mulch and use peat-free compost.
- Turn tree branches into wood chippings for use in communal flowerbeds.
- Increase wildflower meadows – it’s important these areas grow, flower and self-seed encouraging diversity and to allow for spectacular displays.
- Increase bulb planting for year-round flowers.
- Schedule conservation cuts to help wildlife thrive.
- Monitor products used to ensure best practise.
- Upgrade machinery – now nearly all electric!
- Work with our Development team on new scheme planting – Rewilding project.
Tenant Events
Scheme Gathering
At one of our Sheltered Housing schemes, tenants came together for an afternoon of entertainment, food and a chance to speak with Broadland staff. Our Chair, Jenny, and Board member, Judith, came along to the event and listened to feedback from tenants on their scheme and services. Small repairs were also carried out by Broadland staff members who had volunteered their own time to help. We thank everyone who joined us!

The Alpacas are back!
We held an Out and About event at one of our Sheltered Housing schemes to bring tenants together. There was a special visit from Unicorn Alpacas who brought along two alpacas, a skunk and guinea pigs. We also had delicious crepes provided by The Food Dude. Tenants came together and spoke with Broadland staff, took part in arts and crafts activities and chatted with their neighbours. Thank you to everyone who came along!
Tenant Assurance Panel
The Tenant Assurance Panel (TAP) have continued to review Broadland’s services, ensuring we are meeting our obligations under the Regulator for Social Housing Consumer Standards and making improvements.
During the last 6 months, the TAP has reviewed our gap analysis on the Consumer Standards, looking specifically at where we need to make changes. They have discussed an action plan and made suggestions on where they would like to see progress. The TAP will be continually reviewing the action plan every 6 months to ensure we are making progress.
Earlier in the year, the panel met with our Executive Finance Director to discuss our business plan and where we will be spending over the next 5 years. They have also reviewed our complaints process and gave feedback to our new Complaints Manager, sharing their thoughts on where they would like to see further developments.
The TAP has had a busy first 6 months of the year! We will be sharing future updates on our website.
Join the TAP!
Are you a Broadland tenant? We are looking for new members. Be part of a dedicated Tenant Assurance Panel where tenants come together to scrutinise Broadland’s services and drive meaningful improvements. Your insights and feedback can make a real difference.

An Update from Chris, Chair of HOP
I can’t believe that midsummer’s day has gone, and we are now into the second half of the year…

Visual minutes of our May HOP meeting by a tenant.
The HOP Panel has had a good start to 2024 with three great and well attended meetings under our belts in January, March and May.
We invited speakers along to the meetings who gave presentations on Broadland’s:
- Tenant support service and tackling loneliness: Learning more about the service, how to contact the Tenant support team and how the team have supported tenants.
- Decarbonisation plan and Wave 2 funding: Broadland’s aim is to support tenants to afford their energy bills through decarbonisation.
- Estate Services: An update from the team about their responsibilities, challenges, recycling and future projects.
- Welfare and Benefits: How Broadland’s Welfare and Benefits advisor helps tenants to maximise their income and sustain their tenancies.

Come along!
Being a part of the HOP is an opportunity for tenants to have their voices heard, especially about the services Broadland provides.

We are also told why it’s not always easy to solve problematic issues. Broadland want and need feedback from their tenants.
If you would like to come along and see what we’re all about, our next meetings are 30th July and 24th September in Norwich (transport can be provided).

There are spaces available to join and there is no commitment. If you’re interested, get in touch at tenantengagement@broadlandgroup.org or 01603 750113.
